Exercise Physiologist Led Balance and Bones Classes Tarragindi
Improve bone strength, enhance balance, and reduce your risk of falls and fractures.
Our Balance & Bones Exercise Classes are delivered by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) and combine progressive resistance training, weight-bearing exercises, balance retraining, and education to support people at risk of osteoporosis, osteopenia, low bone mineral density, falls, or fractures. They are particularly beneficial for peri- and menopausal women wanting to maintain or improve their bone mineral density, as well as and older adults seeking to maintain independence, functional strength and confidence in movement.

Evidence-based exercise for bone health, balance and falls prevention
Our Balance & Bones Exercise Classes are delivered by Accredited Exercise Physiologist Ash O'Regan and combine progressive resistance training, weight-bearing exercises, balance retraining and education to support people at risk of osteoporosis, osteopenia, low bone mineral density, falls or fractures. Classes are small — a maximum of five participants — and every program is individually tailored within the group setting.
The evidence that specific types of exercise maintain and improve bone density and reduce falls risk is among the strongest in preventive medicine. Progressive resistance training — where load is systematically increased over time — is the most effective exercise stimulus for bone remodelling, because bone responds to the mechanical stress of load by laying down new bone tissue. Balance training reduces falls risk by improving the neuromuscular reactions and postural control that prevent falls before they happen. The combination of both in a supervised, progressive format is what makes Balance and Bones effective — and what distinguishes it from generic exercise classes.
Who is Balance & Bones suited for?
People with osteoporosis or osteopenia — osteoporosis weakens bones, increasing the risk of fractures. Safe, supervised exercise can maintain or improve bone strength and reduce fall risk. Class focus: weight-bearing and resistance exercises tailored to fracture risk, posture and functional independence.
Women in menopause and perimenopause — the sharp decline in oestrogen following menopause accelerates bone density loss and significantly elevates fracture risk. The menopausal transition is the most important window for establishing bone-protective exercise habits. Class focus: bone-loading strength training, balance and fall-prevention exercises, posture support, and education about bone health during menopause.
Older adults managing falls risk — ageing naturally affects strength, coordination, and balance, increasing fall risk and reducing independence. Muscle mass and bone density decline over time. Class focus: functional strength exercises, dynamic and static balance training, posture support, and confidence-building in everyday movements.
People at risk of falls and fractures — anyone with previous falls, balance issues, or fear of falling benefits from targeted exercise. Class focus: progressive resistance training, bone-loading exercises, functional strength, and balance training.
People managing healthy aging and general deconditioning — building the strength, balance and cardiovascular fitness that maintain independence and quality of life across the decades.
What does the class involve?
Each class runs for 60 minutes and combines progressive resistance training using weights, resistance bands and bodyweight with specific balance challenges — progressing from static to dynamic balance tasks as capacity improves. Posture work, functional movement training and education about bone health, fall prevention and home exercise management are woven through the program.
Programs are progressive across the eight-session course — each session builds on the last, systematically increasing load and balance challenge as your strength and confidence improve. Every participant's program is individually adjusted based on their starting capacity, their specific conditions and their response to training.
For patients managing osteoporosis, cardiovascular conditions or other chronic conditions alongside their bone health, exercise physiology through a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) may fund individual sessions alongside the group program. Speak with your GP about whether a GPCCMP referral is appropriate for your situation.
