Telehealth Online Physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy from wherever you are
Telehealth physiotherapy allows you to consult with our Tarragindi physiotherapists via secure video call — receiving the same evidence-based assessment, advice, exercise prescription and education as an in-person appointment, from wherever you are.
At Articulate we use Physitrack — a state-of-the-art telehealth and exercise prescription platform — for all online consultations. Physitrack integrates seamlessly with inbuilt exercise programs and videos to ensure that you understand everything the physiotherapist has said despite not being physically in the clinic. Your exercise program, educational resources and any relevant documents are delivered directly to your phone or device so you have everything you need between sessions.
Who is telehealth physiotherapy suited for?
Telehealth is a genuine alternative to in-person physiotherapy for a significant proportion of presentations — not just a stopgap. It is particularly well suited to:
Patients who cannot attend in person — due to distance, transport limitations, disability, illness, work commitments or caring responsibilities. Patients in rural and remote Queensland who cannot access specialist physiotherapy locally are a primary telehealth population. Patients managing conditions including ME/CFS, POTS and multiple sclerosis where clinic attendance is physically demanding may prefer telehealth on difficult symptom days.
Complex and specialist conditions where access to specific expertise matters more than physical proximity — our specialist experience in hypermobility and EDS, connective tissue disorders, POTS and osteogenesis imperfecta is available remotely to patients who cannot find local expertise.
Exercise program review and progression — for patients who have established an exercise program in person and need remote monitoring and progression between face-to-face appointments.
Education-heavy presentations — chronic pain management, pain neuroscience education, pacing and fatigue management, and condition education sessions are highly effective via telehealth.
Post-surgical rehabilitation monitoring — reviewing home exercise program technique, answering questions and progressing programs between in-person appointments.
Return-to-work and capacity assessment planning — for WorkCover and CTP patients.
What can be assessed and treated via telehealth?
More than most people expect. A physiotherapist can observe your posture, movement quality, functional range of motion, exercise technique, gait and balance via video — and can guide you through self-assessment techniques including active range-of-motion testing, muscle strength testing, balance assessment and special tests you can perform on yourself. The assessment is necessarily different from in-person — hands-on palpation and manual therapy are not possible — but for many presentations the exercise prescription, education and advice that follow an assessment are the most valuable components, and these translate fully to telehealth.
Conditions well suited to telehealth physiotherapy at Articulate include lower back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, hypermobility and EDS, POTS and dysautonomia, ME/CFS, chronic pain, neurological conditions including Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis, post-surgical exercise program review, and ongoing program management for any condition.
Presentations requiring hands-on manual therapy — acute joint mobilisation, dry needling, direct soft tissue work — are less suited to telehealth as the primary treatment modality, though telehealth can complement in-person sessions for these patients.
Can I claim telehealth on private health insurance?
Private health fund rebates for telehealth physiotherapy vary between funds. Most major funds including Bupa, Medibank, HCF, NIB and CBHS have covered telehealth physiotherapy consultations since the pandemic period, though coverage conditions vary. We recommend checking with your fund before booking.
Telehealth physiotherapy is also available for NDIS participants under therapeutic supports, WorkCover Queensland and CTP claimants where insurer approval has been obtained.
How does it work?
Booking a telehealth appointment is the same process as booking an in-person appointment — call us on 07 3706 3407, email [email protected] or book online. Please specify that you'd like a telehealth appointment when booking.
Before your appointment you'll receive a link to join the Physitrack video call — no app download is required, it runs directly in your browser. Have your phone or device set up in a position where your physiotherapist can see you move. For a musculoskeletal assessment, wearing fitted clothing that allows you to be seen clearly helps, and having a clear space to stand, sit and move around in is useful.
After your appointment, your exercise program — complete with video demonstrations — will be sent directly to your phone through Physitrack so you can access it at any time.
Our entire physiotherapy team is available for telehealth consultations. To discuss which clinician is most suited to your condition, call us and our reception team can help.
